Safer Design Website Link

saferdesign
DBP is pleased to add a new website to the links page.
Saferdesign.org is a new website which is due to be launched on the 1st September 2010.
It was founded to assist Designers, Project Managers, Contractors and Clients in ‘designing out’ health and safety risks during design development.

"Safer Design believes that along with quality, programme and cost; safety is determined during the design stage. We also believe that a large number of construction and end use safety risks can be designed out during design developement with proactive focused consideration."
"The STAGE review promoted by Safer Design is considered a useful process in managing risk; that improves safety, constructability and maintainability in a coordinated manner with all stakeholders."

Hopefully this website will be of value to some of our users, and we look forward to sharing the learning and experience gained.

case study case study

Case Studies

As you may have noticed on the welcome page, we are trying to refocus on the case study system. Currently 99% of the case studies submitted are from within the design network. Our stats show that the case study index is the most popular page on the site, leading us to believe that the case studies are being used. If you do read a case study can you please leave a comment. You can do this by registering on the forum and posting on the case study thread which now automatically opens with the case study. As it says on the welcome page - we need your help to grow the database for the good of all. If you have any new case studies or ideas about existing ones - let us know. Please contribute - we will all benefit.

Web Site

THE WEBSITE HAS NOW BROKEN THROUGH THE 30,000 HITS BARRIER.
Thanks to all of you who continue to use the site.

As mentioned above the case study index has been amended to automatically open the forum thread along with each case study.

The lean section has also now been updated with some basic principles.

There will also be an update on the cdm section soon, with an amended questionniare being added.

DBP Challenge

dbp challenge

When this site was launched the hope was that the information sharing process would take on a two way nature.
However to date all of the case studies hosted on the site have been submitted by members of the design network.
DBP would like to set a challenge - Who can provide us with the first case study from outside of the design network?
We know there is good design out there, can you spare a few minutes to send us an example?
Anyone requiring any help in submitting an example can contact us via the Webmaster.

Pictured collecting his DBP award for the best submission of 2007 is Paul Airey of Peers Structural Solutions.
He submitted a case study on how Peers had overcome the growing problem of safely loading and offloading trailers (BDP00112).
Paul had designed a lightweight movable platform which is proving to be a great success and is attracting a lot of interest from other companies.
Having recently finished his degree Paul is looking forward to tackling some major structural projects and hopefully he will have some more worthy submissions in the future.

Useful Information Regarding 17th Edition Wiring Regulations

17th Edition Wiring Regulations

A useful download has come to our attention which is available for free via this link.
Look for "Hager Guide Consumer Unit 17th Edition"

Brian Woodward of DBP stated,
"I found the free download of the "Hager Consumer Unit Guide to the 17th Edition Wiring Regulation" both informative and useful. I would recommend all electricians and designers to view and download this guide from the Hager website. The guide provides a practical look at some of the changes to the Wiring Regulations which will come into effect mid 2008."

Thanks to Brian for his spot.
Also thanks to Hagar for the link.
