Energy and co2 Emmisions

1. Energy and co2 Emmisions

Engineers/Architects should agree realistic and measurable targets for energy and CO2 at the concept stage of a Project.
The energy strategy for these targets should be clearly defined.
Energy strategy reports are already required to support the planning application of major projects in Greater London Authority area and other authorities are considering adopting a similar approach.
Energy strategy reports should demonstrate that design team has given due consideration to all zero and low CO2 technologies that could be employed to meet a proportion of the buildings energy demand.

The following can help with guidance;
  • Sustainability CIBSE Guide L Section 5.1
  • http://www.london.gov.uk
  • http://www.decc.gov.uk/

Current (Feb 09) Target CO2 emissions kgCO2/m2/year is;-

  • Non-domestic: 50 kgCO2/m2 (all uses)
  • Dwellings: DER* of 18 kgCO2/m2

Each of the links below will direct you to a page with information regarding the chosen topic.
