9. Waste Management

The UK Government's policy states that waste management should be based on a hierarchy in which the order of preference, subject to the best practicable option, is as follows:

• Reduce waste
• Reuse waste products
• Recycle waste
• Recover energy from waste
• Disposal

Reducing, reusing and recycling is the most environmentally beneficial approach to waste.

• 9.1 Reduce waste
• 9.2 Reuse materials and equipment (and facilitate future re-use)
• 9.3 Recycle waste (and facilitate recycling)
• 9.4 Compost biodegradable waste
• 9.5 Recover energy from waste (and facilitate energy recovery from waste)
